Sparks Lauds Uncle, Foster Family After Story Appears

Share

I want to clarify some issues regarding the Aug. 8 story on me, my uncle Jerome, cousin Leland and the Goldbaum family.

I don’t feel abandoned by Jerome. He is the reason why I’m here in California. He came to my rescue when I was in the projects in Texas and he paid for my schooling and housing when I first came to California. He filled the shoes of my father and that’s why I look up to him.

In my eyes, he’s still my legal guardian. If I had a problem, I’d go to him first. I love him the same way I did from day one at Banning High.

The Goldbaums are good people and I’m anxious for this thing to be resolved so that my family and outsiders can see that they’re not the bad people that their image carries. They’re down-to-earth human beings and their intentions are good. I’m very appreciative of the things they’ve done for me. I’m living with them because I asked them to and it was OKd by Jerome.

Jerome has not lost control of me. I’m not brainwashed by anyone. I know where I’m from and where I’m headed. I do trust my family. If Jerome wants to reunite Leland and me under one roof, consider it done.

I have to start concentrating on football. As one of the top 10 running back prospects in the country, I have goals and expectations to fulfill. I want this to be the last time I talk about these issues.

Thank you.
