Brown, Melville of U.S. Win Doubles at Volvo International

Second-seeded Jeff Brown and Scott Melville defeated Goran Ivaniscevic and Petr Korda, 2-6, 7-5, 6-0 today to win the doubles final at the Volvo International tennis tournament.

The match was originally to be played Sunday but was postponed because of rain.

Brown is from Flagler Beach, Fla., and Melville is from San Marino. Ivaniscevic and Korda are from Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia, respectively.

Derrick Rostagno defeated Todd Woodbridge, 6-3, 6-3 to win the singles final Sunday in a match delayed five hours and 40 minutes by rain.

In Italy, unseeded Cedric Pioline of France fought back from a first-set loss today to beat Sweden’s Lars Jonsson, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, in the first round of the ATP San Marino Open.

In other first-round action, Paul Vojtisek of West Germany defeated Nuno Marques of Portugal, 6-4, 6-4.

Top seeded Guillermo Perez-Roldan of Argentina and second-seeded Austrian Horst Skoff begin first-round action Tuesday.

Perez-Roldan will play Italy’s Massimo Cierro while Skoff takes on Federico Mordegan of Italy.
