WEEKEND TV : Documentaries on F.D.R., ‘Fantasia’

As the prospects for a land war in the oil-rich deserts of the Middle East loom ominously this weekend, the regularly scheduled news shows will all be crammed with the latest details from the Persian Gulf.

Appropriate for these troubling times, Arts & Entertainment presents “Biography: Franklin Delano Roosevelt” today at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. This hourlong program, hosted by Peter Graves, examines the career of the late President and reflects on his contributions during the Great Depression and World War II.

On the entertainment front, Channel 28 repeats “Music Center 25th Anniversary” Sunday at 6 p.m. The Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Joffrey Ballet, violinist Midori and Neil Simon are among those celebrities from the world of music and the arts on hand to pay tribute to the Los Angeles Music Center.

Also at 6 p.m. Sunday, the Disney Channel presents “ ‘Fantasia’: The Creation of a Disney Classic.” The hourlong documentary, hosted by “L.A. Law’s” Michael Tucker, explores the animation techniques employed by Walt Disney and his staff to create this 1940 masterpiece.
