Other Courthouses Have Problems

Share

Evidently Robert Quist and other L.A. County court officials have never investigated their other branch courthouses or they would never have made an outright false statement that other courthouses have no problems like the ones dreaded by Chatsworth residents.

People living near the San Fernando Courthouse since it opened in October, 1983, have nothing but problems.

Residents in the 300 block of Macneil Street have not been able to park in front of their houses Monday through Friday since 1983. Street sweepers come Thursdays and Fridays but cannot sweep, as cars are continually parked there. Cars get ticketed, but the streets never get cleaned.

Cars block people’s driveways, and also park in the San Fernando Junior High School teachers parking lot across the street, in apartment driveways, in a Baptist church parking lot across the street. Cars also park in the red no-parking zones near all corners on several streets. Trash is thrown in streets and on sidewalks and parkway lawns.

There are not enough parking spaces provided by L.A. County. One courthouse parking lot is for judges, attorneys and jurors. The other public parking lot was free at first, but 18 months ago, a $2 fee was instituted, and this lot now is not even one-third full many days because people can park in front of houses for free.

Los Angeles County has done a great disservice to the residents of San Fernando, especially by not having adequate parking. It has ruined the quality of life for those living near the courthouse.
