Fresno State avenged its only loss last season by defeating New Mexico, 24-17, Saturday night in a nonconference game at Fresno.

New Mexico stunned the Bulldogs, 45-22, in Albuquerque at the end of last season.

The Bulldogs (2-0) have won 18 consecutive games at home and have 20 victories in their last 21 games overall.

Aaron Craver gained 175 yards in 31 carries and scored two touchdowns to lead Fresno.

Quarterback Mark Barsotti completed 27 of 38 passes for career-high 301 yards and one touchdown.

Craver scored on a 61-yard run early in the third quarter to give Fresno State a 17-14 lead and later scored on a one-yard run.

Fresno State took a 7-0 lead on a 14-yard scoring pass from Barsotti to Marty Thompson in the first quarter.

But New Mexico (0-1) led at halftime, 14-10.

Pacific 41, CS Sacramento 33--Kris King passed for 289 yards and four touchdowns in leading the Tigers (1-1) at Stockton.

Sacramento’s Bobby Fresques, who passed for 329 yards and three touchdowns, was taken from the field by ambulance after being hit in the back with about 5 1/2 minutes to play. He was hospitalized; the seriousness of his injury was not known.
