No Clues in San Pedro Man’s Death
Los Angeles police said Thursday that there were no clues to the motive or culprit in the weekend slaying of Jose Alonso, a 33-year-old San Pedro man gunned down while he and his uncle sat talking in a parked car.
Alonso was pronounced dead shortly after the 3:30 a.m. shooting in the 400 block of West 21st Street.
According to homicide Detective Lionel Robert, Alonso and his uncle were sitting in the vehicle after finishing work at a San Pedro restaurant. As they talked in the car, a gunman armed with a shotgun walked up to the driver’s window and fired one round.
After the shooting, police said, Alonso’s uncle got behind the wheel of the car and drove a few blocks to his own home, where he summoned paramedics. But their efforts to save Alonso were unsuccessful and he died at the scene.
“It’s a real tragedy,” Robert said. “He was a family man with a wife and three kids . . . and we really don’t have a motive for the shooting.”
Likewise, Robert said, no suspect has been identified.
