PRO FOOTBALL REPORT : WEEKDAY UPDATE : RAMS : Damone Johnson Status Undecided

Share

Coach John Robinson said a decision will be made today on whether to waive the team’s two-week roster exemption and activate recently signed tight end Damone Johnson for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Tampa, Fla. Johnson, last season’s starter, ended his 50-day holdout Wednesday.

The Rams also haven’t decided whether Alfred Jackson or Mickey Sutton will start at cornerback opposite Bobby Humphery. Jackson is recovering from groin and hand injuries, and Sutton started last week. Robinson said that the player Sutton replaced, Pro Bowl cornerback Jerry Gray, should be ready to start by the time he can come off injured reserve, after minor knee surgery.

“Jerry will certainly be primed and ready to go for the Cincinnati game (Oct. 7),” Robinson said. The Rams play Philadelphia Sept. 23, then have a bye.

Starting right tackle Jackie Slater, who missed last Sunday’s game because of a dislocated toe, is expected to play this week.
