Trabuco Hills Makes Point to Tie

Share

Trabuco Hills elected to go for one point rather than two after Jeff Clayton dashed 16 yards to pull the Mustangs within one of Dana Hills with 6:55 left in their game Friday night. Jason Teno’s conversion tied the score, resulting in a 7-7 final.

It looked as though the decision to go for one was a good one when, after the Mustangs scored, the defense forced Dana Hills quarterback Albie Sukut to fumble which Paul Stanhope recovered at the Dolphins 46. But the Dana Hills’ defense tightened and stopped Trabuco Hills on four plays.

“We thought about (going for the two point conversion),” said Trabuco Hills’ coach Jim Barnett. “If there had been four minutes left, we would’ve. As good as our defense was playing, we figured we’d get the ball back.

“We had our chance but we just didn’t take advantage of it,” Barnett said.

Dana Hills scored in the second quarter when Shaun Coleman ran two yards to cap a 10-play, 28-yard drive.

Chris Morgan returned a Mustang punt 13 yards to the Trabuco Hills 28. The drive appeared to be stalled when Dana Hills threw what appeared to be an incomplete pass on a third-and-22 situation, but an official called pass interference on the Mustangs, making it first and 10 at the 25.

The Dolphins dodged another bullet when Sukut scrambled and found Marcus Jenkins at the nine on a third and 10 play.

Three plays later, Coleman ran in over the left tackle to put the Dolphins on the board. John Ashley’s kick made it 7-0.
