COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Cypress Stays Unbeaten in Volleyball

The Cypress College women’s volleyball team improved to 3-0 by defeating East Los Angeles in a nonconference match at Cypress Wednesday night.

Cypress won, 15-6, 15-4, 15-11, and was led by sophomore middle blocker Kari Calliham, who had 15 kills and five digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Kim Evans had 10 digs, four kills and three aces for Cypress. East Los Angeles is 0-2.

In other nonconference volleyball matches:

Saddleback 3, Palomar 2--Kelly Sullivan had 13 kills to lead Saddleback to a 4-15, 15-11, 15-7, 14-16, 15-1 victory. Heather Keenan had eight kills, seven solo blocks and Jody Narey and Julie Fuller each had 10 kills for host Saddleback (2-0).

Orange Coast 3, San Diego Mesa 1--Orange Coast (2-1) won, 15-7, 15-13, 10-15, 16-14, and was led by Reiko Matsumoto, who had 23 kills.

In nonconference men’s soccer:

Orange Coast 5, Los Angeles Mission 2--Sophomore Andy Strouse and freshman Darin Courter each scored twice and freshman Todd Biefeld also scored to lead host Orange Coast (2-2). Strouse, Courter and Biefeld each attended Edison High School.
