ROUNDUP : Thousand Oaks Stays Unbeaten

The Thousand Oaks High girls’ volleyball team, ranked No. 4 in the nation by USA Today, handed host Channel Islands a 15-6, 15-2, 15-2 loss in a Marmonte League match Tuesday.

Senior middle blocker Kaili Kimura had 11 kills and junior setter Jennifer Streltzoff had 39 assists for Thousand Oaks, which improved to 5-0, 3-0 in league play. Thousand Oaks, which has won at least a share of the league title the past four years under Coach Ron Beick, will meet rival Royal on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Royal, which shared the Marmonte League title with Thousand Oaks last season, won the Southern Section 4-A Division championship last season.

Thousand Oaks won 2-A Division titles in Beick’s first two seasons (1986 and 1987), lost in the 4-A final in 1988 and reached the quarterfinals last season.

“I think this is my best team in all aspects,” Beick said. “I may have had teams that were good in one facet, but this team is very strong overall.”

In other girls’ volleyball matches:

Newbury Park d. Simi Valley, 15-5, 15-10, 15-6--Jenny Cameron had 13 kills and Erin Mutch had 27 assists for Newbury Park (3-1, 2-1) in a Marmonte League match at Simi Valley.

Hart d. Antelope Valley, 15-12, 15-10, 15-6--Heather Medearis had eight kills and Carol Gruhlke added seven kills for Hart (2-2) in a nonleague match at Antelope Valley.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Occidental d. Claremont-Mudd, 15-9, 15-9, 15-3--Alison Avery had 13 kills to lead Occidental College (8-6, 1-0) in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at Claremont.

Moorpark d. Santa Monica, 15-11, 13-15, 15-3, 14-16, 15-5--Christa Grenat had 16 kills for Moorpark (2-2, 2-2) in a Western State Conference match at Moorpark.

Pierce d. Ventura, 15-7, 15-13, 15-2--Carina Sailer had eight kills and Andrea Banducci had seven to lead Pierce (5-0, 4-0) in a WSC match at Ventura.

MEN’S SOCCER

The Master’s 1, Point Loma 1--Chris Palm scored at the 10-minute mark of the second half in a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics District 3 match at Point Loma.

Master’s (4-4-2) outshot Point Loma, 24-3. Goalie Allan Bowden recorded his second assist in four seasons at Master’s.

Moorpark 2, Mission 0--Oscar Vela and Jeff Spach each scored for host Moorpark in a WSC match.

Goalies Mike Zemansky and Chris James combined on the shutout for Moorpark (6-0, 1-0).

Cal Lutheran 4, Christ College 2--Jeff Papor, Casey Pirih, Luis Gutierrez and Willie Ruiz scored for visiting Cal Lutheran (5-1, 5-1) in an NAIA District 3 match.

WATER POLO

Crespi 17, St. John Bosco 6--Jean Michel scored five goals and Paul Vincze added four to lead Crespi (9-0) in a nonleague match.
