GARDEN GROVE LEAGUE : Rancho Alamitos Defense Gets Job Done

Share

Rancho Alamitos Coach Mark Miller was concerned about his team’s defense before Friday night’s game against Bolsa Grande. But the Vaqueros put their coach at ease with a 35-0 Garden Grove League victory over the Matadors at Bolsa Grande.

Running back Ulysses Trammell scored on runs of two and 59 yards in the second quarter to make the score 14-0. A seven-yard pass from quarterback Chris Singletary to Eric Moore gave Rancho Alamitos a 21-0 lead.

Singletary started the game at middle linebacker for Rancho Alamitos (4-0, 1-0 in league play) in place of Tim Starke, who was injured last week against Magnolia.

“I was scared about having to play him,” Miller said of Singletary. “I thought he would get tired and it would hurt him on offense, but he did a good job.”

The Rancho Alamitos defense preserved its third consecutive shutout with a fourth-quarter goal-line stand at its own one-yard line, Bolsa Grande’s only scoring threat of the night. The Vaqueros have allowed only one touchdown all season.

Singletary, who completed 8 of 12 passes for 165 yards, connected with Sean Hall on a 33-yard touchdown strike in the third quarter to make the score 28-0. Mario Gonzalez scored the Vaqueros’ final touchdown on a one-yard run set up by Mike Grizzle’s block of a Matador punt.

Bolsa Grande’s backfield twins, Marcus and Maurice Wilson, were limited to 54 and 67 yards respectively. Bolsa Grande is 1-3, 0-1.
