PREP FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Pham Scores 2 Touchdowns to Lift Costa Mesa

Quoc Pham scored two touchdowns to lead Costa Mesa High School to a 14-0 victory over Brea-Olinda Friday night in a nonleague game at Newport Harbor High School.

Pham, a senior running back, returned a punt 80 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter. Costa Mesa (1-3) led, 6-0, at halftime.

In the third quarter, Pham caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Ryan McEvoy. McEvoy then threw to Mike Meyer for the two-point conversion.

Brea-Olinda is 2-2 this season.

In other nonleague games:

Brethren Christian 15, St. Monica 6--Brethren Christian of Cypress came from behind for the victory at Jordan High School. After St. Monica (2-2) scored on a 41-yard punt return by John Green in the second quarter, Brethren came back with a 26-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Stott to Dave Kogler with one minute left before halftime to take a 7-6 lead.

In the third quarter, Brethren capped a 60-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run by Frank Brady. Stott ran in for a two-point conversion to complete the scoring.

Brethren Christian has allowed 19 points in four games. John Deweese had 13 unassisted tackles against St. Monica, which was held to negative yardage in the second half.

Laguna Hills 42, Morro Bay 8--Running back Marwan Saba scored three touchdowns and quarterback Casey Sullivan threw for a touchdown and ran for another to lead the Hawks (3-1) at Morro Bay.

In nonleague eight-man football:

Cal Lutheran 58, Winward 12--Senior Brad Pluckhan scored four touchdowns and Armin Eberhard scored two touchdowns to lead ninth-ranked Cal Lutheran (4-0) at Mar Vista.
