THE GATE: In setting a major league attendance record of 3,885,284, the Toronto Blue Jays drew more than 1 million fans more than the Atlanta Braves drew in the past three years combined. The Braves, for that period, attracted 2,813,148, including 28,792 for their recent fan appreciation weekend.

MEMORABLE: Houston Astro shortstop Rafael Ramirez had 23 errors and 24 walks through Thursday. This may be the first time in his career that he ends a season with more walks than errors.

CHANGE OF VENUE: Moving has worked wonders for Ron Robinson, acquired by the Milwaukee Brewers in the deal that sent Glenn Braggs to the Cincinnati Reds. Robinson is 8-1 with four complete games and two shutouts in 11 starts with the Brewers. He had one complete game and no shutouts in 71 starts with the Reds.

THE STREAK: Cal Ripken Jr., the Baltimore Oriole shortstop, has more going than a consecutive-games playing streak. He is the 12th player in history to have hit 20 or more homers in each of his first nine seasons. Eddie Murray, then with the Orioles, was the last to do it, 1977-85.

RYAN’S ROLL: Nolan Ryan has a modest record of 13-8 but could easily be romancing 20 victories. In five of his past eight starts he has given up one run or no runs but is only 2-2 for that span, despite an earned-run average of 2.15.
