Share

In its 48-18 victory Saturday over Air Force, the Aztecs (2-2 overall, 1-1 in the Western Athletic Conference) shed their ranking as the worst defense in the country.

After holding Air Force to 364 yards, the defense is allowing 477.3 yards a game, which places it 104th out of 106 Division I schools. And after allowing run-oriented Air Force just 21 yards through the air, the Aztec defense improved its passing-efficiency rating to 97th from 106th a week ago. But in total passing yards, only Brigham Young (319) is allowing more than SDSU (311.5). In scoring defense, the Aztecs are allowing 35.5 points a game, which places them 102nd.

Thanks to Dan McGwire’s 343-yard performance against Air Force, he is 15th in passing effeciency (137.8). The Aztecs are fifth in team passing (316.3 yards a game). McGwire is also eighth in total offense with 274.5 yards a game.

After his third consecutive 100-yard receiving game, Dennis Arey has moved to seventh in yards per game with 101.3.

SDSU Coach Al Luginbill said some of his players were still savoring Saturday nights victory at practice Monday night. “I think it was a case of patting ourselves on the back one day too long.” . . . Trainer Brian Barry said running back Tommy Booker (ankle), linebacker Jamal Duff (thigh) and nose tackle Ramondo Stallings (tailbone contusion) have improved, but all are questionable for Saturday’s game at undefeated Wyoming.
