Sweetwater 28, Montgomery 0--Danny Branch ran for 158 yards on 12 carries, including a 92-yard touchdown. Branch’s brother, Willie, scored on a 31-yard run for eighth-ranked Sweetwater (4-1, 2-0). Gilbert Flores ran 17 times for 88 yards for Montgomery (2-3, 1-1).

Castle Park 13, Hilltop 12--Marcus Darden completed nine of 15 passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns, including a 39 yarder to Eric Bell for the winning score. Castle Park improved to 3-2, 1-1, and Hilltop fell to 1-3, 0-1.

Avocado League

San Marcos 21, Ramona 7--Mark Frazier ran for 163 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries for ninth-ranked San Marcos (4-1, 2-0), which took over first place. The San Marcos defense held Ramona to 24 yards rushing on 21 carries. San Marcos’ first touchdown was set up by a fumble recovery by Brian Wright on the Ramona 31. In the fourth quarter, San Marcos’ Jaime Lozano recovered another Ramona fumble in San Marcos territory.

San Pasqual 35, Rancho Bernardo 14--Cullen Owen carried 12 times for 106 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Billy Geddes was involved in three touchdowns, passing for two (to Matt Baglio and Mike Walters) and running for another. Geddes rushed five times for 60 yards. San Pasqual (2-3, 1-1) compiled 365 yards of total offense and held Rancho Bernardo (2-3, 0-2) to 186.

Escondido 28, Carlsbad 24--Brian Elliott scored two touchdowns for Escondido (3-2,2-0). Carlsbad (4-1, 0-2) led, 10-7, at halftime.

Nonleague

Mira Mesa 27, Elsinore 0--Wayne Pittman carried the ball 10 times, rolling up 257 yards and scoring three touchdowns, one on a run of 96 yards and another of 97 yards. He was not the whole show. Robbie Edwards carried eight times and gained 177 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively, No. 2 Mira Mesa recorded three sacks, two by David Walker. Each sack pushed Elsinore out of field-goal range. Kwabene Robinson saved a touchdown on the game’s final play by intercepting an Elsinore pass in the end zone.

Mission Bay 42, Christian 38--Mission Bay quarterback Andy Guyader threw for 200 yards, completing nine of 14 passes to five receivers. Neil Berkley and Brent Kirsten caught touchdown passes.

On the ground, Mission Bay’s Jason Diaz gained 138 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries.

Christian’s Chad DeGrenier completed 13 of 28 passes for 188 yards and Richard Curry had 208 all-purpose yards. The difference in the game? Christian went for two-point conversions on four occasions and failed each time. Twice they went for extra points, which were made.

Patrick Henry 31, Hoover 8--Travis Nelson ran for two touchdowns, and Luke Lowrey threw to Zedric Martin for two more as Patrick Henry improved to 4-1. Hoover fell to 1-4.

La Jolla 45, Clairemont 2--E.J. Watson rushed for 107 yards on four carries and scored three touchdowns for La Jolla (4-1). Watson scored two other touchdowns, a 94-yard kickoff return and a 46-yard interception return, both in the third quarter. Watson, a junior, now leads the county with 14 touchdowns. Clairemont (0-5) didn’t score until the fourth quarter.

St. Augustine 8, San Diego 0--Aaron Buckner scored on a one-yard run in the third quarter for St. Augustine (3-2). San Diego fell to 2-3.

Kearny 35, Crawford 0--Seventh-ranked Kearny (5-0) held Crawford to 84 yards total offense at Mesa. Kearny quarterback Sammy Page completed nine passes in 23 attempts for 201 yards and a touchdown. Kearny got interceptions from Mark Gibbs and Darnay Scott, his sixth. Crawford is 1-4.

USDHS 34, Serra 6--Brady Walker rushed 15 times for 93 yards and one touchdown. He also scored after recovering a fumble. Quarterback Mike Henning completed 11 of 18 passes for 87 yards. Doug Abts caught three of those passes for 23 yards and ran six times for 62 yards and a touchdown.

Helix 33, Grossmont 0--Arvis Henderson caught three of three passes from Greg Wilbur for 105 yards and three touchdowns for No. 4 Helix (4-1). Teammate Chris Baker caught five passes for 151 yards and one toughdown. Wilbur completed 12 of 15 passes for 315 yards and four touchdowns. No. 5 Grossmont fell to 3-1.

West Hills 36, El Capitan 17--Mike Campbell of West Hills (3-2) ran for three touchdowns 115 yards in just nine carries, including a 90-yard scoring burst in the first quarter. West Hills’ Joey Fitzgerald was five of 11 for 129 yards and one touchdown pass to Fred Buckley. Eric Rockhold of El Capitan (0-5) ran 18 times for 88 yards and Jessic Heise rushed for 67 yards in 17 carries.

El Cajon Valley 19, Granite Hills 0--El Cajon Valley (4-1) converted two turnovers into touchdowns. Mike Anderson ran back an interception 57 yards in the first quarter and Mark Boykins ran back a fumble recovery 10 yards in the second quarter. Granite Hills fell to 2-3.

Laguna Beach 32, Coronado 7--Morgan Lanchantin was 12-17 for 247 yards passing with two touchdowns to lead Laguna Beach (2-3). Laguna Beach had 452 yards in total offense, while Coronado (2-3) committed six turnovers on fumbles. Quarterback Adam Smith was 9-12 passing for 137 yards for Coronado.

Bishop’s 41, Campbell Hall 0--Ryan Smith led Bishop’s (4-1), rushing 13 times for 87 yards and four touchdowns in just over two quarters of play. Grant Bailey got his fourth interception in five games and ran it back for a touchdown. Campbell Hall fell to 0-5.

Coastal League (Eight-man)

La Jolla Country Day 48, Francis Parker 0--For the second week in a row, La Jolla Country Day’s game was called in the third quarter because of the 45-point rule for eight-man football. Rashaan Salaam gained 167 yards and five touchdowns on only seven carries. Robert Yang also scored a touchdown on a 50-yard run and quarterback Daniel Sparling hooked up with and Larry Cheng for the final touchdown.
