Fourth-Quarter Touchdowns Lift Dana Hills Over University, 24-14

un Coleman scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns as Dana Hills High School beat University, 24-14, in a nonleague game Saturday night at Irvine High.

Dana Hills (3-1-1) came back from a 14-0 deficit after University (2-3) had taken advantage of four early Dana Hills fumbles.

Coleman scored on touchdown runs of one and five yards in the final four minutes. Dana Hills trailed, 14-10, with 6:30 left when the Dolphins drove 50 yards for a touchdown. Coleman’s one-yard run capped the drive and gave Dana Hills a 17-14 lead with 2:57 left.

Brian Stanley of Dana Hills then recovered a fumble at the University 20 and three plays later, Coleman ran it in from the five to put the game out of reach.

University surprised Dana Hills in the first quarter, scoring a touchdown after a poor snap from center on a field goal attempt. Holder Matt Selman picked up the low snap and hit tight end Josh Taussig for a 16-yard touchdown.

The Trojans scored again early in the second quarter as Brian Vail threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Jerry Apana. University’s drive, set up by Bernard Gardner’s fumble recovery, went 60 yards in seven plays.

But Dana Hills made it, 14-7, as quarterback Albie Sukut ran 11 yards for a touchdown with 7:46 left in the half. Dana Hills closed the gap to 14-10 on John Ashley’s 35-yard field goal.
