Cash Beats Kroon in Seiko Tourney
Pat Cash, the 1987 Wimbledon champion, beat Niclas Kroon 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) today in the first round of the Seiko Super Tennis Tournament.
Cash, who returned to competition in March after an injury-filled 1989 season, broke the first and fifth games of the first set.
In other first-round matches, Brad Pearce beat Dan Goldie 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-3. Rick Leach defeated David Pate 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (8-6).
Top-seeded Stefan Edberg, second-seeded Boris Becker, third-seeded Ivan Lendl and fourth-seeded Andres Gomez had byes in the first round.
