Tulsa Athletic Director Rick Dickson said he plans to cancel the 1991 and 1992 football games against Louisiana Tech because of a brawl Saturday in which 21 Tech players came off the bench to fight.

Three of them, first string wingback Jerald Kennedy, second team running back Jason Davis and second team offensive tackle Craig Calvery, were suspended for a game by Coach Raymond Peace. Three other Tech players were ejected Saturday, but they were not suspended.

“I will not tolerate this type of thing,” Peace said. “I’m not going to have our players leaving the bench area to become involved in a brawl. There’s no place for it in college sports or any other sports for that matter.

“I can assure you that this will not happen again. I won’t stand for it.”

The fight started when two Tech offensive linemen pinned Tulsa’s Aaron Tallman to the ground after a play was blown dead at 10:50 in the second half.

Four Tulsa players also were thrown out of the game, which Tech won, 35-21.

It was the third major fight for Louisiana Tech in its past 11 games. The others were against Arkansas State in 1989 and Sept. 8 at McNeese State, a game the Bulldogs won, 51-3.

Daniel Reneau, president of the Ruston, La., school who attended Saturday’s game at Tulsa, called Tulsa President Robert Donaldson to apologize.
