PRO FOOTBALL REPORT : WEEKDAY UPDATE : RAMS : Robinson Says Youth May Be Served

The Rams may have given up hope of catching San Francisco in the race for the NFC West title, but their chances for a wild-card playoff spot are not so remote. Still, a 1-4 record has Coach John Robinson considering the prospects of relegating the 1990 season to rebuilding status.

“There’s a point in the season when playing young people has got to become a priority,” he said Tuesday, “and we’re not too far from that. Once the (game in Chicago Sunday night) went to 31-0, I thought: We’re not going to win this game. I want some of those young people playing.

“You go into a game saying, ‘Oh, I can’t play the young guy, he’ll make a mistake.’ But when the veteran can’t make the plays, eventually you’ve got to break the ice and play those guys.”
