SOUTHLAND ROUNDUP : San Luis Obispo Takes to Air for 29-0 Win

David Lafferty led the Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo offense by passing for two touchdowns and 231 yards, and the Poly defense held Santa Clara to 99 net yards Saturday in a 29-0 Western Football Conference victory over the Broncos in Santa Clara.

Cal Poly, 6-1 overall and 2-1 in WFC play, also got three field goals from Tom McCook. The touchdown passes were caught by Vince Holloway and Aaron Brubaker. Baldomar Cortez ran for a late touchdown.

Santa Clara (5-3, 1-2) had 37 net yards rushing, with six quarterback sacks biting into the total.

Aron Wise, averaging 138 yards rushing before Saturday, was held to 51 net yards.

Azusa Pacific 27, Menlo 0--Quarterback Brian Hunt completed 27 of 55 passes for 338 yards and connected with Dan Jensen on touchdown pass plays of 34 and five yards as the Cougars (5-1) beat Menlo (5-2) in a nonconference game at Azusa.

Hayward St. 19, San Francisco St. 13--Running back Tony Randall rushed for 162 yards in 28 carries and scored one touchdown as Hayward State snapped a six-game losing streak with a 19-13 victory over San Francisco State in Hayward.

Hayward’s Jesse Tautalatasi, who rushed for 84 yards in 21 carries, scored the deciding touchdown from one yard with 2 minutes 45 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

Randall scored on a one-yard run with 5:13 remaining in the first quarter of the Northern California Athletic Conference game to tie the contest at 7-7.

Hayward St. improved to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play. San Francisco St. fell to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in conference.
