Jogis Makes It to Quarterfinals in Badminton
Chris Jogis of Manhattan Beach advanced to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Badminton Championships Thursday, defeating Iain Sydie of Canada, 7-15, 15-11, 18-17, at UC Irvine’s Bren Center.
Jogis was one of three U.S. players to advance in men’s singles. Tom Reidy of Tempe, Ariz., defeated En Horng Liu of Taipei, 17-14, 15-11, and Tariq Wadood of Redondo Beach won by default.
In second-round play in men’s doubles, the U.S. teams of Ximing Yao/Guy Chadwick, Karl Knudsen/Peter Baum, Ignatius Rusli/Arilin Wiguna, Benny Lee/Jogis, John Britton/Reidy and Wadood/Martin French each advanced.
Play in the $15,000 tournament resumes at noon today.
