Glendale Pair Share in WSC’s Weekly Awards

Glendale quarterback Marco Arcipreste and fullback Wes Bender, along with Bakersfield tailback Nathan Dupree, have been selected as the Western State Conference tri-offensive players of the week.

Rick Luna, a linebacker at Pierce, was honored as the co-defensive player of the week, sharing the award with Bakersfield defensive back Abel Garcia.

Arcipreste completed 11 of 13 passes for 228 yards and two touchdowns in Glendale’s 45-21 victory over Moorpark. Bender gained a season-high 172 yards in 19 carries and scored once for the Vaqueros.

Luna had six unassisted tackles, three assisted tackles, broke up three passes and returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown in Pierce’s 35-14 win over archrival Valley.

The Master’s College men’s soccer team has been seeded 12th in the 12-team National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics championship tournament in Boca Raton, Fla., Nov. 19-24.

Master’s (9-10-3), which advanced to the NAIA tournament for the first time with a 3-2 shootout victory over Westmont in the District 3 final Saturday, is in the A bracket with No. 1 West Virginia Wesleyan, and No. 8 William Carey.

Master’s will play Wesleyan next Monday and William Carey on Tuesday. If they win their pool, the Mustangs would play the winner of pool D in the semifinals Friday. The championship match will be held Saturday, Nov. 24.

Cal State Northridge has put together a ticket and travel package for Saturday’s NCAA Division II football playoff game at San Luis Obispo. The plan includes bus fare, general-admission ticket and a tailgate lunch.

Northridge’s allotment of 500 game tickets will go on sale to the public at noon today at the CSUN Student Union. Matador season-ticket holders can reserve tickets in advance by calling the Northridge ticket office between 9 a.m. and noon.

The Woodland Hills AYSO Region 71 girls’ team of 14- and 15-year-olds, won the Section 10 championship Sunday.

Woodland Hills beat Oxnard, 4-3 and 3-2, to win the championship of the double-elimination event. The tournament was held at Freedom Park in Camarillo.
