A Chance to Catch Up on Film Classics

For the November sweeps, the networks trot out various made-for-TV movies and this weekend is no exception. But sweeps is also a great time for film buffs to catch up on the classics.

Tonight, local independent stations have scheduled vintage celluloid. The original “King Kong” starring Fay Wray screens at 8 p.m. on Channel 5. Channel 9 counters with Paul Newman in “The Hustler.” And Channel 13 goes for the action crowd with Clint Eastwood’s “Magnum Force.”

Meanwhile, Channel 28 presents a double-header of classic film noir with “Murder, My Sweet” starring Dick Powell at 9 p.m. followed by the 1949 thriller “D.O.A.” at 10:35 p.m.

The original movie scene is highlighted Sunday at 9 p.m. on ABC (7)(3)(10)(42) with the first two hours of the miniseries “It,” based on Stephen King’s novel starring Harry Anderson, John Ritter, Annette O’Toole and Richard Thomas. The drama concludes Tuesday night at 9 p.m.
