Virginia edged defending NCAA champion Stanford by nine points to earn the No. 1 ranking in the Associated Press’ preseason women’s basketball poll.
The Cavaliers received 25 first-place votes and 1,506 points, and the Cardinal collected 23 first-place votes and 1,497 points from a nationwide panel of 64 women’s coaches.
