Dwain Bradberry, the highly regarded Manual Arts High School point guard who made an oral commitment to attend Cal State Fullerton, will not sign a national letter of intent with the school this week, according to Edgar Bradberry, Dwain’s father.

Bradberry, who averaged 13.7 points and 5.4 assists to help the Toilers win the City 4-A championship last season, informed Fullerton coaches last week that he would sign with the Titans.

But Edgar Bradberry said his son, who is also considering Oregon State, Kansas State and UC Irvine, has since wavered in his decision.

“It had nothing to do with Fullerton--I just think he’s a little undecided,” Edgar Bradberry said. “This is all new to him, and he made his oral commitment on the spur of the moment. When he has no doubts, when he makes up his mind point-blank, then he’ll sign. He has mixed emotions now.”

Edgar Bradberry said Dwain, a 6-foot-3 1/2, 180-pound senior, has not ruled out attending Fullerton. But he won’t sign with anyone until next spring. The fall signing period ends Wednesday.

“I told him to forget about it now and go on with his studies,” Bradberry said. “I want him to get his grades together.”

Titan Coach John Sneed might have lost one recruit, but he gained another Monday when Ray Hooper, a 6-5 forward from University High School in San Diego, signed with the Titans.

Hooper, who averaged 20 points per game last season, is a good outside shooter who will probably play a wing position at Fullerton. A San Diego newspaper recently listed Hooper as one of San Diego County’s top 10 preseason college prospects.

Sneed said Hooper is the final recruit Fullerton will sign this fall, joining Millikan High guard Pat Thacker, who signed last week.
