COLLEGE FOOTBALL REPORT / WEEKDAY UPDATE : SAN DIEGO STATE : Holiday Doesn’t Mean No Practice

Share

Today is Thanksgiving, which means the Aztecs will practice in the morning instead of in the afternoon. They will meet at 8 and then practice from 9:30-11.

No time off with Texas El Paso here Saturday.

“As much as I’d like to . . . ,” Coach Al Luginbill said. “We don’t practice Friday. We’re (practicing) early in the morning so everybody can get where they need to be. If the redshirt freshmen want to stay home over the weekend (and skip Saturday’s game), that’s fine with me.”

Most of the Aztec veterans expected to practice Thursday, but it came as a surprise to some of the first-year players.

“I told a couple of those dumb freshmen that we won’t practice (today),” senior Pio Sagapolutele said. “Most of them thought they would get to leave after Wednesday’s practice and go home.”

So how did they find out otherwise?

“They went telling other veterans, ‘Pio said we won’t practice (Thanksgiving).’ The veterans set them straight. They said, ‘Don’t listen to that guy.’ ”
