COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Saddleback’s Free Throws Hold Off MiraCosta, 82-80

Keith Ison and Patrick Brown each made free throws in the final 15 seconds and Saddleback College defeated MiraCosta, 82-80, in a nonconference basketball game Saturday at Saddleback.

Ison made the second of two shots with 15 seconds left to put Saddleback (6-5) ahead, 81-80. A missed shot by MiraCosta was rebounded by Dee Boyer who passed to Patrick Brown. Brown then was fouled with three seconds remaining and made one of two free throws.

MiraCosta (6-7) called a timeout and set up a three-pointer that was missed by Luke Pettorini as time ran out. Pettorini led MiraCosta with 28 points.

Boyer led Saddleback with 15 points. He also had eight rebounds.

In the Glendale tournament:

Cypress 58, Glendale 53--Sophomore center Eric Pauley scored 23 points and had eight rebounds for Cypress in the third-place game. Pauley was seven of 11 from the field and nine of 10 from the free-thorw line. He scored 14 points in the first half and nine in the second half for Cypress (9-5).

In the Riverside tournament:

College of the Desert 84, Golden West 80--Golden West appeared in control at the half with a 49-35 lead, but shot 34% in the second half as Desert rallied for the consolation championship.

Jason Vaughan lead Golden West with 23 points. Scott Campbell added 17.

In the Cuesta women’s tournament:

Golden West 70, Cuesta 58--Jennifer Harney scored 23 points, 21 in the second half as Golden West (12-1) won the tournament title. Bits Sirchia was the only other Golden West player in double figures with 15.

Orange Coast 79, Alan Hancock 72--Erika Manning had 19 points and 13 rebounds for Orange Coast (9-5) in the third-place game. Stacey Giem had 16 points and eight assists, Kami Bigler had 13 points and seven assists and Lisa Orosco had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Orange Coast.
