The Sidelines : Perez Is Still Top Bantamweight
Raul Perez retained his World Boxing Council bantamweight title for the seventh time Monday when he knocked out Candelario Carmona in the eighth round of a scheduled 12-round bout.
Perez, of Tijuana, floored Carmona, of Acapulco, with his left hand. Carmona, rated the No. 2 contender by the WBC, was counted out by referee Guillermo Ayon at 2:17 in the round. Both fighters weighed 118 pounds.
Perez, 23, is now 47-1-2, with 30 wins by knockout. Carmona, 31, holds a 46-7-1 record, with 32 wins by knockout.
