From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A concert-goer was shot and seriously wounded outside a rap concert at the Celebrity Theater in Anaheim touching off a melee that police had to control. Unruly patrons refused to disperse, authorities said, and a fight inside the theater halted the performance of Oakland rap group, Too Short, just minutes after it began. Too Short was one of several groups performing at a show headlined by the Los Angeles rap group, Ice Cube. Anaheim police said they arrested three people for refusing to disperse and a fourth suspect was detained for investigation in the shooting of a man police tentatively identified as Willie Banks. Banks, who was apparently wounded in the abdomen, was taken to Long Beach Memorial Hospital where he underwent surgery, officials said. The shooting victim reportedly was near the theater’s front door when he was hit. Inside the theater, witnesses said, rival gang members clashed before and during the Too Short performance. Chairs were thrown and members of the audience poured onto the stage.
