BOYS’ SOCCER ROUNDUP : Mater Dei Wins on Ney’s Goal
John Ney scored with 10 minutes remaining to give Mater Dei High School a 2-1 victory over Valencia in a nonleague soccer game Wednesday at Valencia.
Trevor Ickes scored in the first half to give Mater Dei (11-3) a 1-0 lead, but Valencia’s Joel Camarena scored midway through the second half to tie the score. Billy Walker had 10 saves for Mater Dei and David Greer had four for Valencia.
In other nonleague games:
Brea-Olinda 2, La Mirada 0--Ali Rastavan and Marco Hernandez scored for visiting Brea-Olinda. Neal Schuster had six saves for the Wildcats.
In the Garden Grove League:
La Quinta 1, Garden Grove 0--Dave Matlock scored in the second half for La Quinta (6-5, 2-1 in league). Pruseuth Sotakoun had three saves for La Quinta. Jacob Servin had eight saves for Garden Grove (0-2 in league).
Kennedy 1, Pacifica 1--Johnny Medina scored for host Kennedy (6-3-2, 2-0-1) and Tim Brooks scored for Pacifica (1-0-1).
