COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Rider Scores 42 to Lead Antelope Valley’s Win

Antelope Valley College’s J. R. Rider scored 42 points, the fourth-highest total in school history, to lead the Marauders to a 115-95 win over Chaffey in a Foothill Conference game Thursday night at Alta Loma.

Rider, a 6-foot-5 forward, scored more than 30 points in a game for the seventh time this season, breaking a single-season record and tying the school’s career record.

He was 16 of 24 from the field and had 15 rebounds but was only nine of 16 from the free-throw line.

Antelope Valley, which improved to 13-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play, trailed, 48-46, at halftime but outscored the Panthers, 69-47, in the second half.

Tony Madison scored 23 points, including five three-point baskets, and had seven assists for Antelope Valley, which was 44 of 79 (56%) from the field.

Chaffey, which fell to 9-8 and 1-2, was only 38 of 93 (41%) from the field.

In another men’s game:

Ventura 85, Santa Monica 82--DiJon Bernard scored 25 points and Lester Neal added 24 as Ventura (15-4) won a Western State Conference game at Santa Monica.

Ventura trailed, 80-75, with just 6 minutes 15 seconds left, but the Pirates embarked on a 10-2 run to close out the game. Santa Monica fell to 12-7.

WOMEN

Moorpark 116, Glendale 11--This matchup between Moorpark, ranked fourth in the state, and winless Glendale was purely a mismatch.

Moorpark (18-2) reeled off 33 consecutive points in one stretch and substituted as liberally as its eight-member roster would allow.

Amy Chandler and Kerrie Marshall led Moorpark with 22 and 20 points, respectively.

Chandler had 15 assists, and Angie Long had 10 rebounds.

Annie Bedoian scored all but one of Glendale points.

Canyons 89, Oxnard 53--Former Hart High standout Kim Posey scored a career-high 30 points and had 11 rebounds to lead Canyons (9-4) in a Western State Conference game.

Shannon Solway, a graduate of Simi Valley, had 24 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists for Canyons.

Canyons shot a season-high 54% (40 of 74) from the field.

Nicole Force scored 25 points and Julie Urago added 12 for Oxnard (4-9).

Santa Monica 77, Ventura 71 (OT)--Vanessa Hackett scored 22 points and Lonnette Hall added 18 for Ventura (11-6) in a nonconference game.

Santa Monica (8-5) trailed by three in the waning seconds, but Velma Palm made a three-point basket at the buzzer to force overtime.

Santa Monica was paced by 32 points from Danielle Hill.

Nicole Ellis had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Ventura.
