Titans’ Caldwell Suspended Indefinitely
Cal State Fullerton reserve center Ron Caldwell was suspended from the team indefinitely because he has missed several practices in recent weeks, Coach John Sneed said Friday.
The 6-foot-8 senior is Fullerton’s fourth-leading scorer (9-point average) and rebounder (5.5). But his playing time has slipped considerably since he suffered a rib-cage injury in the Fresno State game Jan. 2.
Caldwell said he was “puzzled” by his lack of playing time. Reserve forward J.D. Green and reserve guard Greg Vernon, who played extensively in the nonconference season, also have played little in recent games.
It’s apparent Caldwell’s injury wasn’t the sole reason for his reduced role.
“I’ve got a bottom line and he’s been under it too many times,” Sneed said. “I’m sure the injury frustrated him, but you have to be tough enough not to go into the tank when you get hurt. He has to be aware of his own personal problems, and if he isn’t, he isn’t helping himself or the team.”
