HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Frigid Faith Baptist Falls to Crossroads

Faith Baptist High made just 22 of 64 shots from the field and fell to Crossroads, 81-67, in a Delphic League basketball game Tuesday night at Faith Baptist.

Four Crossroads starters scored in double figures, including Bakir Allen (20), Khalil Allen (16), Eric Mobley (12) and Travon Dugar (12). Crossroads improved to 9-7 overall, 5-0 in league play.

Peter Rasmussen scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Faith Baptist (11-6, 2-3). Alex Estrada scored 17 points and Laurence Kennedy had 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Two Faith Baptist starters were benched for disciplinary reasons.

In other boys’ basketball games:

Burbank 57, San Gabriel 55--David Ranney scored a team-high 16 points to lead visiting Burbank to its first Foothill League victory.

Jon Warner scored 11 points and made six of six free throws in the fourth quarter for Burbank (6-12, 1-4), which played the first half without two starters who were benched for missing practice.

Montclair Prep 77, Marshall Fundamental 62--Junior center Chris Sanger made 13 of 21 shots from the field and scored a game-high 29 points to lead Montclair Prep (15-2, 5-0) in an Alpha League game at home.

Freshman Kris Johnson added 10 points and 11 rebounds. Sanger, who added 10 rebounds, and Johnson made up for the loss of team scoring leader J. T. Billingslea, who was ejected in the second quarter for fighting after scoring two points.

Montclair Prep trailed, 20-12, after the first quarter and 30-19 when Billingslea was ejected.

Kern Valley 55, Paraclete 37--Forward Jason Curtis scored a game-high 19 points and added 10 rebounds, but an ice-cold Paraclete fell at home in a Desert-Inyo League game.

Paraclete (6-12, 1-4) made 15 of 64 shots (23.4%) from the field.

L.A. Lutheran 62, Pacific Christian 38--Junior swingman Lauren Walter scored a team-high 10 points and added 13 rebounds to lead host L.A. Lutheran (7-8, 5-3) in a Heritage League game.

Western Christian 71, Village Christian 60--Host Village Christian led by 10 early in the second quarter, but blew the lead in the Alpha League game.

Chris Bruce scored 35 points, including 11 in a pivotal second quarter, for Western Christian (12-5, 3-2). John Brown had 29 points and 11 rebounds to lead Village Christian (11-8, 3-2).

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Buena 84, Dos Pueblos 20--Senior forward Alisa Ewin scored 18 points to lead Buena to a lopsided Channel League win at Dos Pueblos. Freshman center Michelle Giordano added 16 points and Jennifer Wells (14) and Mia Palkie (10) also scored in double figures for Buena (15-2, 7-1).

Buena led, 32-2, after one quarter. Dos Pueblos did not score from the field in the first quarter and trailed, 50-4, at halftime. Buena defeated Dos Pueblos, 116-15, in the first round of league play.

Simi Valley 60, Royal 36--Lori Church had 22 points and 17 rebounds for host Simi Valley (10-8, 4-4) in a Marmonte League game.

Nikki Spindler scored nine points and grabbed 15 rebounds for Simi Valley.

Danielle Pedretti scored 11 points for Royal (1-14, 0-8).

Thousand Oaks 64, Newbury Park 37--Michelle Palmisano scored 28 points and teammate Sasha Scardino scored 17 points for host Thousand Oaks (19-1, 8-0) in a Marmonte League game.

Westlake 52, Channel Islands 48--Westlake held an 18-point lead after three quarters, but had to hold off a Channel Islands’ rally to secure its Marmonte League victory at Westlake.

Sophomore guard Marlee Organ scored 17 points for Westlake. Sal Tauau scored a game-high 19 points for Channel Islands.

Glendale 74, Arcadia 39--Tracy Young (27 points) and Jenny Dalton (23) of Glendale (13-5, 5-0) combined for 50 points in a Pacific League game.

St. Bonaventure 57, Bishop Diego 37--Denice Babby scored 20 points and Joana Ziuraitis added 12 to help the Seraphs (9-7, 4-1) win a Tri-Valley League game.

L.A. Baptist 48, Maranatha 32--Karleen Cox scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Knights (9-3, 4-1) in an Alpha League game.

Oak Park 55, Moorpark 30--Marcy Reed scored 18 points and Kelli Romney added 17 points and pulled down 18 rebounds for Oak Park (4-8, 2-3) in a Tri-Valley League game at Moorpark.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Crescenta Valley 3, San Dimas 1--Nancy Allen’s goal broke a 1-1 tie in the first half for the Falcons (15-0) in the nonleague match.

Agoura 1, Newbury Park 0--Jill Gallegos scored the game’s only goal for Agoura (11-8, 3-3) in a Marmonte League match.

Royal 4, Camarillo 2--Wende Brown scored two goals, including the goal that broke a 2-2 tie late in the second half, to lead the Highlanders (4-2-1) to a Marmonte League victory.
