The California Transportation Commission has allocated $4 million for improvements to the Lyons Avenue interchange on the Golden State Freeway near Santa Clarita, California Department of Transportation officials said Friday.

Beginning this spring, workers will widen the northbound Lyons Avenue off-ramp to two lanes and the ramp terminus to four lanes, officials said. In addition, workers will construct an auxiliary lane before the Lyons Avenue exit, and the Lyons Avenue crossing over the freeway will be expanded from four to seven lanes.

Also, a 14-foot-high, 2,300-foot-long sound wall will be constructed for the benefit of residents east of the freeway and south of Lyons Avenue.
