Poway Wrestling Streak Is Halted in Oklahoma

Share

Poway’s 155-match unbeaten streak came to an end Friday at the Cowboy Classic dual-meet wrestling tournament in Stillwater, Okla.

Poway (155-1-1 since 1977) lost to Edmond (Okla.), ranked No. 2 in the state and fifth in the nation, 31-19, on the first day of the two-day tournament.

“If you’re going to lose it may as well be in the heartland of wrestling,” Poway Coach Wayne Branstetter said. “It was closer than the score indicates. There was a real fine line between a couple matches. We could have just as well won it.”
