Newborn Found in Toilet; 17-Year-Old Girl Arrested
A 17-year-old girl was arrested for attempted murder Monday after authorities responding to a 911 emergency call at her home in Bellflower found a newborn baby in a toilet, authorities said. Deputies from the Lakewood sheriff’s station arrived at the teen-ager’s home in the 8700 block of Cedar Street about 5:15 a.m. The girl’s mother directed them to a restroom, where they found a newborn baby boy partially submerged in the toilet, Deputy Britta Rodela said.
Deputy Victor Allende administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation to the child, then drove him to the nearest hospital. The baby, called Baby Boy Johnson, was listed in extremely critical condition and was on life-support systems Monday night at Doctor’s Hospital of Lakewood.
The 17-year-old, who not identified because of her age, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and booked at the Lakewood sheriff’s station. She was admitted to County-USC Medical Center in the custody of a Los Angeles County probation officer.
