Estancia Takes Pacific Coast Title With Victory Over Costa Mesa

Estancia High School wrapped up the Pacific Coast League girls’ basketball championship with a 56-46 victory over Costa Mesa on Thursday night in the Estancia gym.

Estancia ended regular-season play with a 23-1 record, 10-0 in league. The Mustangs are 17-8, 8-2.

Costa Mesa took an 11-4 lead in the first quarter, but the Eagles outscored the Mustangs, 24-5, until late in the half when Rachel Ward’s last-second basket closed the gap to 28-18 at the break.

“In the first quarter, we were coming down and weren’t setting up our offense,” Estancia Coach Lisa McNamee said. “We had to start concentrating on running our plays.”

Patrice Lumpkin had a season high 29 points and 12 rebounds. Melody Earle finished with 21 points and nine assists. Teammate Leah Braatz came off the bench and pulled down 13 rebounds. Olivia DiCamilli scored 23 points for Costa Mesa.
