COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Golden West Women Win Third Title in Four Years

The Golden West women’s basketball team won its third Orange Empire Conference title in four years by defeating Cypress, 88-41, Friday in Huntington Beach.

It was the 21st consecutive victory for Golden West (29-1, 11-0 in conference), the defending state champions. Bits Sirchia scored 23 points and Jennifer Harney added 18 for Golden West, which has won 23 consecutive conference games and 30 in a row at Golden West.

In other Orange Empire Conference games:

Fullerton 82, Rancho Santiago 29--Nicky Durity scored 21 points for visiting Fullerton (21-6, 7-3). Marianne Karp scored 11 for Rancho Santiago (8-19, 1-10).

In the Rancho Santiago Lidlifter softball tournament:

Orange Coast 7, Ventura 0--Shannon Ebert went two for three with a walk, drove in two runs and scored another for Orange Coast. Kristin Heizer pitched a four-hit shutout, striking out three.

In the Arizona Tournament:

Fullerton 5, Phoenix 4--Frances Garcia hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to cap a five-run Fullerton rally. Garcia had hit a home run earlier when Fullerton defeated Glendale of Arizona, 6-4.

In nonconference men’s volleyball:

Orange Coast 3, Rancho Santiago 0--Austin Linford had 10 kills for host Orange Coast, which won, 15-3, 15-1, 15-7, in the season-opener for both teams.
