DIVISION III-A ROUNDUP : Pacifica’s Nagata Trips Gladstone in Overtime Victory

Larry Nagata made two free throws with 50 seconds left in regulation and scored all four of Pacifica’s points in overtime as the Mariners defeated Gladstone, 76-73, Friday night in a Division III-A first-round game playoff at Pacifica.

Nagata, who scored 24 points, made two throws with 20 seconds left in overtime to seal the victory.

Pacifica (16-7) trailed by 18 with two minutes left the third quarter, but the Mariners scored 11 consecutive points spanning two quarters and cut the deficit to 64-57 with 6:30 left in the game.

Pacifica plays defending Division III state champion Servite in the second round Tuesday. Servite defeated San Marino, 52-22, in a first-round game.

Santa Margarita 83, Harvard 76 (OT)--Santa Margarita’s Dan Bathey made one of two free throws with 14 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime.

Mike Carpenter scored 25 of his 27 points in the second half, including five three-pointers for visiting Santa Margarita (15-9).

Carpenter was six for six from the free-throw line in overtime as the Eagles outscored Harvard, 13-6.

Notre Dame 93, Rancho Alamitos 69--Rancho Alamitos turned the ball over five of its first seven possessions and Notre Dame took a 31-10 first-quarter lead. Marcello Tellez had 11 points in first quarter and was seven for seven for Notre Dame (21-5). Tellez scored two three-pointers, a dunk and made three of his nine free throws during that first-quarter run. Leon Vickers scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Rancho Alamitos (10-12). Tellez scored 25 points to lead all scorers, G.C. Marcaccini scored 17 points, Bobby DaCorsi scored 15 and Steve Colella 13 for Notre Dame.

Corona del Mar 55, Northview 51--The visiting Sea Kings rallied from a five-point deficit in the fourth quarter to win. Doug Hesse scored 10 of his 18 points and John Upham seven of his 26 in the fourth quarter for the Sea Kings (13-14).
