In other Division I-A games:

Irvine 69, Loyola 46--It was tied, 24-24, with about two minutes left in the second quarter when Irvine went on a run. Irvine (23-3) outscored Loyola, 10-3, to end the quarter and led, 34-27, at the break.

Irvine then went on a 9-0 run to start the second half and had the game well in hand from there. Loyola (10-14) went four minutes without scoring at the beginning of the third quarter.

Senior John Molle scored a game-high 25 and added nine rebounds. Teammate Brian Boothroyd added 20 points and five rebounds.

“I thought we were real efficient in the last two minutes of the first half and in the third quarter,” said Steve Keith, Irvine’s coach.

Canyon Springs 65, Esperanza 60--Canyon Springs (20-5) took a 10-point halftime lead, then held on the rest of the way despite missing seven free throws in the final two minutes. Joe Foss scored 20 points and Matt Kordik 19--including 12 in the fourth quarter--for Esperanza (17-9).

Capistrano Valley 64, Pasadena 58--The Cougars overcame 21 turnovers and poor free-throw shooting in the fourth quarter to defeat Pasadena at Saddleback College.

Capistrano Valley (22-5), the second-place team in the South Coast League, meets Marina in the second round Tuesday. Pasadena, an at-large entry from the Pacific League, finishes 14-11.

Capistrano Valley led, 56-42, with 3:19 remaining in the game, but turnovers and four straight misses on the front end of one-and-one situations allowed Pasadena to come within 56-52 with 1:40 to play.

Jeff Rosales scored nine of his 11 points in the second quarter when Capistrano Valley overcame a 15-10 deficit and took a 31-26 halftime lead. Tom Airey scored 17 points to lead the Cougars, and Brett McCorkle added 14.

Thousand Oaks 63, Dana Hills 57--Derrick Walsh scored 21 points in a losing effort for visiting Dana Hills (14-11). Keith Barnett and Jaime Todd added 14 each for Dana Hills.

Cajon 85, Anaheim 64--Shawn Battle and Donecka Buckner, 6-6 forwards, scored 23 and 18 points for host Cajon (23-4). Saythong Iemsisanith and Frank Madrid each scored 13 points for Anaheim (13-12), which finished with a winning recond for the first time since 1970.

In a Division I-AA game:

Hawthorne 69, Santa Ana 54--Derek Scurry scored 18 points and Dominic Ellison 17 to lead host Hawthorne (13-11). Chauncey Woolridge scored 10 points for Santa Ana (14-12).
