Other Palomar League games:

Torrey Pines 72, San Dieguito 66--The Falcons (20-7, 10-4) made their last seven free throws to clinch the victory, their fourth consecutive league title, and their 20th victory for the fifth straight season. Dan Reynaga scored 17 points and Bill Scheibe scored 14 for Torrey Pines. John Allred had 13 rebounds in addition to his 10 points for the Falcons. Matt de la Pena was six of nine from three-point range and led San Dieguito (14-11, 7-7) with 32 points.

Mt. Carmel 89, RBV 78--The Sundevils (18-7, 8-6) led from the start but didn’t pull away until the fourth quarter when RBV (12-13, 7-7) started fouling. Dana Pope (25 points), Jon Young (16) and Ryan Wootton (14, 14 rebounds) led Mt. Carmel, which made 16 of 19 free throws. The Longhorns were led by Brad Grubaugh (31) and Darryl Parker (24).

Avocado League

Ramona 91, Rancho Bernardo 53--Ramona’s victory earned the Bulldogs a share with El Camino in the Avocado League title, their first since joining the league in 1976.

The No. 8 Bulldogs (18-5, 12-2) celebrated by smearing each other with avocados.

“This one is a big one,” said Coach Al Schaffer, who coached in Michigan for 31 years before coming to Ramona four seasons ago. “You wait and wait to get a team that you feel has the potential to win a state championship and we have the potential to do it this year.”

Ramona center Travis Knight led all scorers with 22 points. He also grabbed 15 rebounds and blocked five shots. Cody Cunningham added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Ramona’s last league championship was in 1974 in the Mountain Empire League.

El Camino 72, Escondido 60--Shaun Scurry scored 19 points and had seven rebounds to lead top-ranked El Camino (19-4, 12-2) to its seventh consecutive league title. Mike Frank, a 6-1 sophomore foward added 20 rebounds to his 15 points for Escondido (6-15, 4-10).

Carlsbad 78, San Marcos 63--Three-point range reigned as Carlsbad won at home. Matt Tague (26 points) hit four three-pointers and teammate Kewan Shariff (13) hit three for the Lancers (14-11, 9-5). Kevin Osmundson led San Marcos with 21 points.

City Central

San Diego 85, Lincoln 78--For the first time in Dennis Kane’s tenure at San Diego, the Cavers defeated Lincoln, and at the same time halted Lincoln’s 37 league-game winning streak. No. 4 Lincoln (17-9, 7-1) had four of its starters foul out: Archie Robinson, Berry Randle, John Akridge and Dennis Washington. No. 9 San Diego (4-17, 4-4) came back from a six-point dificit at the half.

City Eastern League

Morse 93, Point Loma 59--The Tigers never let up after their 43-22 halftime lead and played themselves to a Eastern League tie with Serra. Morse (16-7, 6-2) was led by Jamaar Lavender and Darnel Cherry’s 20 and 16 points.

Mira Mesa 53, Patrick Henry 51 (OT)--Although he had 12 rebounds, four blocked shots and made the two free throws that send the game into overtime, Mira Mesa still held John Pike (19.7 average) to eight points.

Mike Phillips opened the 4-2 overtime period, there were several missed opportunities on both sides and then Phillips hit the winning layup for Mira Mesa (15-10, 5-3).

City Harbor League

St. Augustine 81, Marian 50--The Saints raced out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back. Mark Magee lead all scorers with 18 points and John Gergurich added 16 for St. Augustine, which improved to 13-11, 5-3. Marian, led by Joe Lagula’s 12 points, finished to 13-13, 2-6.

City Western League

Kearny 81, La Jolla 48--The No. 3 Komets captured the league title with the victory. Kearny finished 21-5, 7-1. La Jolla finished 2-18, 2-6.

USDHS 73, University City 47--The Centurions jumped out to a 17-12 lead after the first quarter but collapsed in the second half as Dave Silva (17) and Joe Clark (16) led four USDHS players in double figures. The Dons, who outscored the Centurions, 42-17, in the second half, finished 19-4, 6-2. UC fell to 12-9, 4-4.

Coastal League

La Jolla Country Day 94, Francis Parker 57--This game was an afterthought for La Jolla Country Day (19-4, 11-1), which had wrapped up the title Tuesday. Josh Tepper and Jason Boyle paced LJCD with 16 points apiece. Parker, led by Brink Sanders’ 18 points, fell to 4-18, 3-9.

Bishop’s 6, Santa Fe Christian 57--Bishop’s (18-6, 9-3), which finished in second place, was led by Stave Runyan with 14 and Nelson Ackerly with 13 points. Andy Strader had 16 points for Santa Fe.

Mountain Empire 115, Julian 84--Mark Noland scored a game-high 44 and Gilberto Gonzalez added 31 to lead Mountain Empire (8-4, 12-10). Julian is 3-19, 0-11.

Nonleague

Serra 75, Mission Bay 46--No. 7 Serra (15-6) pulled away in the fourth quarter by outscoring Mission Bay, 23-5. Antwann Harris scored 19 points and Justin Wible had 18 for Serra. Mission Bay (5-18) was led by Rick Moe with 19 and John Price with 17 points.

GIRLS

City Central League

Madison 67, Hoover 35--Jill Weeks scored 16 points and had eight rebounds for Madison (12-10, 6-2). Madison’s Christina Dawson added 13 points and Seeta Brown grabbed six rebounds. The Warhawks jumped to a 41-11 halftime lead.

City Western League

University City 58, USDHS 43--For the first time in the school’s 10-year history, University City girls’ basketball team won the league title. UC’s (19-4, 9-1) only league loss was to Kearny. Charlotte Kornik (27 points, seven rebounds) and Amy Cleveland (16 points) led UC. Kelly O’Neill (17) and Bridget Bowler (11) paced USDHS (9-11, 3-5).

Kearny 52, La Jolla 39--Kearny led by four (26-22) at halftime but pulled away in the fourth quarter, where it outscored La Jolla, 16-7. Sophomore Melissa Krause scored 20 points and had eight rebounds and her twin Shelli scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Kearny (18-7, 6-2). Kearny finished in second. La Jolla dropped to 7-9, 2-6.
