COLLEGE BASKETBALL BIG WEST ROUNDUP : Hunt Scores 27 to Lead Las Vegas

Anderson Hunt scored 27 points and Larry Johnson added 18 to lead No. 1 Nevada Las Vegas to its 33rd consecutive victory--86-74 over 12th-ranked New Mexico State in a Big West Conference game Saturday night at Las Vegas.

The Rebels (22-0, 13-0) held the Aggies scoreless for six minutes in the first half and stretched their lead to 25 points midway through the half.

Reggie Jordan scored 18 points to lead the Aggies (19-3, 11-2).

The Rebels led, 53-32, at halftime and jumped to a 29-point lead midway through the second half before the Aggies began whittling at the lead on three-point jumpers by Ron Putzi, Michael New, Jordan and William Benjamin.

San Jose State 72, Fresno State 71--Mike Wasserburger hit a three-point shot with two seconds left to give the Spartans a victory at Fresno.

Wasserburger’s basket capped a 12-2 run by San Jose in the final two minutes of the game.

Fresno State (11-13, 6-9) had a 69-60 lead before the comeback and was ahead, 71-64, with 1:20 left.

Mike Brotherton scored 20 points for San Jose (7-17, 5-10).

Pacific 100, Utah State 92--Dell Demps scored 28 points, including a three-point shot near the end of regulation, as the Tigers beat the Aggies in double overtime at Stockton.

Pacific (12-11, 8-6) got 24 points from Don Lyttle and a career-high 22 from Randy Lavender.

Kendall Youngblood had 24 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists for Utah State (10-13, 7-7).

Pacific held a 77-67 lead with 8:39 left in the second half, but Utah State surged ahead and was up, 86-83, with 38 seconds remaining. Demps hit from 25 feet with 29 seconds remaining to tie the score and send the game into overtime.
