Other Division I game:

Mt. Carmel 54, Morse 53--Robert Treahy scored just one point, but it came with with 12 seconds left and sent Mt. Carmel to Wednesday’s semifinals against top-seeded Poway at a site to be determined.

With the score tied, Mt. Carmel’s Scott Schoenwald missed a lay-up, but Treahy grabbed the rebound and was fouled. He made the first and missed the second, but Mt. Carmel recovered the ball with six seconds left. The Sundevils’ Dana Pope was fouled and missed the front end of a one-and-one. Morse’s Jamaar Lavender got off a desperation 30-footer at the buzzer that grazed the rim.

Mt. Carmel’s Jon Young scored 25 points, including four three-pointers, and Ryan Wootton added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Lavender led Morse (17-8) with 11 points.

Division II

Valhalla 78, Serra 59--Senior guard Mark Dillon scored 15 of his 25 points in the first quarter to lead third-seeded Valhalla (23-6) past sixth-seeded Serra (16-9). Long-range shooting carried Valhalla. Dillon hit four three-pointers in the first quarter, and Mike Nalu, who had 17 points, hit four treys in a row in the third quarter. Tony Etheridge led Serra with 16 points.

Helix 57, Carlsbad 49--Helix avoided its third consecutive overtime game by taking a convincing eight-point victory over Carlsbad (15-12). The Highlanders, seeded fourth, ranked ninth in The Times’ final poll and champions of the Grossmont 3-A League, improved to 21-5. Helix went to overtime to beat Monte Vista in the regular-season finale, then beat Vista, 70-69, in double overtime on Wednesday.

Helix will play El Camino in Wednesday’s semifinal at a site to be determined.

Division V

Bishop’s 53, Marian 47 (OT)--Bishop’s could have iced the game in the fourth quarter but missed 10 of 14 free throws. But the Knights’ free-throw shooting was the difference in overtime as they made eight of 10 from the line to pull out the victory.

Steve Runyan led Bishop’s (20-6) with 25 points, including three three-pointers. Nelson Ackerly added 11 points, 12 rebounds and seven steals for the Knights, who advanced to Wednesday’s semifinals against Christian. Beto Martinez led Marian (14-14) with 15 points and Jamarr Brown added 14.
