HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Two-Strike Squeeze Bunt Lifts Granada Hills to Win

Derrick Cole’s two-strike suicide squeeze with none out in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Granada Hills High a 3-2 win over Poly in a San Fernando baseball tournament game Tuesday.
Granada Hills (1-2) entered the seventh trailing, 2-1, but Bryan Martin led off with a double and Ari Jacobs singled him to third. Scott Berger’s double scored Martin and advanced Jacobs to third, setting up Cole’s squeeze.
Martin (1-0), a senior right-hander, allowed only four hits and struck out four in earning the complete-game victory. Darryl Stroh and Eric Anderson each had two hits for Granada Hills.
In other tournament games:
Franklin 4, San Fernando 1--Julio Merino held San Fernando to just five singles in a tournament game at San Fernando.
Franklin (1-2) jumped to a 3-0 lead against Canto Franco (1-1) in the first. Two of the runs were unearned.
David Rojas had two hits for San Fernando (2-1). Merino struck out four and walked none.
Kennedy 1, Birmingham 0--Birmingham shortstop Max Saucedo bobbled a grounder by Darrin McCall, allowing Bill Ramirez to score the winning run with two out in the top of the eighth.
Cody Beaumaster pitched a one-hitter in going the distance for Kennedy (1-2). He took a no-hitter into the seventh inning.
Narbonne 4, Grant 0--Armando Cervantes struck out 10 batters in the first five innings of a San Fernando tournament game at Narbonne. Shane Williams had the only hit for Grant (1-2), a triple in the third. Grant starter Holbik Castro (0-2) took the loss.
VOLLEYBALL
Hoover d. Notre Dame, 9-15, 7-15, 15-13, 15-13, 15-9--Steve Card had 29 kills and Morgan Hey added 21 for Notre Dame (0-1) in a nonleague match.
