Northridge Falls, 9-6; 2nd Game Ends in Tie
Kevin Herde hit three home runs and drove in seven runs to lead the University of San Diego to a 9-6 win over Cal State Northridge in the first game of a nonconference doubleheader Sunday at Matador Field.
The second game, called because of darkness after nine innings, ended in a 9-9 tie.
Herde’s third home run off Northridge starter Scott Sharts, a grand slam in the fifth, erased a 5-4 Matador lead.
In the second game, Northridge squandered an early 8-3 lead then let a 9-7 advantage slip away in the top of the ninth.
