HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : 10-Run Fifth Propels Westlake to Victory Over Camarillo, 15-12

Westlake High erased a six-run deficit with a 10-run fifth inning and went on to defeat Camarillo, 15-12, Friday in a Marmonte League slugfest at Westlake.

Rob Neal hit two home runs and drove in three runs for Westlake (4-2, 1-0 in league play), and Rico Lagattuta had five runs batted in and three hits, including a three-run homer in the fifth. Andrew Degnan added two doubles and three RBIs.

John Snyder (1-0) pitched 4 1/3 innings in relief for the victory, and Donnie Hill pitched 1 1/3 innings to earn his first save.

Ralph Guillen had three hits for Camarillo (4-3, 0-2).

In other baseball games:

Royal 6, Agoura 1--Jason Ignacio allowed three hits and one run and struck out four in 6 1/3 innings to lead Royal (5-0, 1-0) to the Marmonte League win. Sean Ryan and Jason Warren doubled for Agoura.

Antelope Valley 5, Canyon 2--Antelope Valley scored three runs in the sixth to pull out the Golden League win. Canyons’ Erik Hiljus (1-1) struck out eight but walked in the go-ahead run in the sixth. Chris Cooper and Greg Hamm each had two hits for Canyon.

Saugus 5, Ridgecrest Burroughs 1--Doug Maggiora (3-0) tossed a six-hitter and struck out seven to lead Saugus to the Golden League win. Jamie Riggio had two hits and Jason Bates added two hits and two RBIs for Saugus (3-3, 1-0).

Fillmore 15, Nordhoff 0--Anthony Chessani (3-0) struck out nine and allowed no hits over four innings to lead Fillmore to the Frontier League win. Art Sosa had two hits for Fillmore (6-1, 2-0).

L.A. Baptist 11, Campbell Hall 5--Brad Imbler had three hits and four stolen bases, and Colyn Van Buren added a double, triple and two RBIs to lead L.A. Baptist to the first-round win in the L.A. Baptist tournament. Ted Park homered, tripled and drove in four runs for Campbell Hall (0-5).

Santa Clara 5, St. Bonaventure 3 (8 innings)--John Chapparo of Santa Clara (4-2) tripled in Ron Tegland in the eighth to break a 3-3 tie, and Chapparo scored on a single by Adam Figueroa in the nonleague game at St. Bonaventure. Chapparo and Garth Teron each had three hits and two RBIs.

Oakwood 5, Brentwood 1--Matt Williams pitched a three-hitter, struck out seven and walked none in the nonleague game at the Veterans’ Administration Park. Williams (1-2) also had three hits and scored two runs.

Teammates Gentry Dick, John Levine and Cassidy Pope each had two hits for Oakwood (4-2).

Cleveland 12, El Camino Real 5--Winning pitcher Ike Petruzates also drove in three runs for Cleveland (1-4 in the conference) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at El Camino Real.

Petruzates had a two-run single in Cleveland’s seven-run third, and Dave Cipolla added a solo home run and two singles.

Hoover 9, Muir 1--Donnie Kinney doubled and drove in two runs and Buddy King added a pair of RBIs to lead Hoover (2-4, 1-3) to a Pacific League win. Young Park (2-1) tossed a six-hitter.

Carpinteria 6, Oak Park 3--Eric Pryor (2-1) allowed three earned runs, struck out eight and walked two but took the loss for host Oak Park in the Tri-Valley League game. Art Kahn put Oak Park (4-2, 0-1) ahead, 2-0, in the first with a two-run home run.

Bell-Jeff 11, Cantwell 6--Tony Cesta, Brian Lee and Anthony Pawluc each had three hits for Bell-Jeff (2-6) in the nonleague game at Cantwell.

La Salle 5, Village Christian 3--Mark Vail hit a home run for Village Christian in the nonleague game at The Master’s College.

L.A. Lutheran 3-1, Ribet 2-6--Kevin Brown’s sacrifice fly scored Trevor Earle with the winning run for L.A. Lutheran in the opener of a Heritage League doubleheader.

Queen of Angels 7, Windward 6--Queen of Angels (3-2, 2-0) rallied for five runs in the seventh inning of the Liberty League game. Eric Montijo tripled in three runs, Felix Renteria singled home Montijo and Renteria scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Roger Andrade.

SOFTBALL

Crescenta Valley 4, Arcadia 0--Stacy Atwood (6-0) allowed one hit and struck out 11 in six innings of the consolation championship of the Downey tournament at Independence Park in Downey.

Santa Paula 8, Calabasas 7--Santa Paula (2-3, 2-0) had a 7-0 lead after 5 1/2 innings, then withstood a furious Calabasas rally in the final two innings of the Frontier League game. Winning pitcher Xochita Castillo had three hits.

Chaminade 7, Oak Park 2--Leadoff hitter Maria Costa was two for three, stole a base and scored three runs for host Chaminade in the nonleague game.

Chatsworth 6, San Fernando 4 (8 innings)--Chatsworth center fielder Daisy Sudparid made a diving catch in the bottom of the seventh to save a run and help send the Northwest Valley Conference game into extra innings.

Hoover 7, Montclair Prep 2--Lolita Allen had two doubles and Brenda Lyons allowed three hits over six innings to lead Hoover to the nonleague victory.

Oakwood 8, Rio Hondo Prep 5--Tracy Stern (4-3) allowed three hits for Oakwood (4-3) in a nonleague game.

Hart 9, Canyon 0--Hart’s Krissy Carpenter struck out seven and allowed one hit in six innings of a nonleague game at Canyon. Jamie Dean was three for four with two RBIs for Hart (6-2).

Bell-Jeff 11, L.A. Baptist 1--Andrea Ferchaw had three hits and Maria Gomes and Theresa Lucan each added a triple for Bell-Jeff (5-4) in the nonleague game.

BOYS’ TRACK

Birmingham 107, Sylmar 20--Sophomore Tony Serpas and junior Patrick Abdelkerim finished 1-2 in both the 100 and 200 meters for host Birmingham in the Valley Pac-8 Conference meet.

Serpas and Abdelkerim had identical times of 10.9 seconds in the 100 and 22.5 in the 200, and each ran a leg on the Braves’ victorious 400-meter relay team (42.8).

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Royal d. Newbury Park, 15-3, 15-5, 15-5--Cousins Kevin and Steve Hambly had 11 and 10 kills for visiting Royal in the Marmonte League match that put the Highlanders (5-1, 4-0) in sole possession of first place. Eduardo Souza had 13 kills for Newbury Park (3-1 in league play).
