Newbury Park 8, Westlake 7 (nine innings)--David Lamb had a two-run double in the ninth to give host Newbury Park a comeback Marmonte League victory.

Westlake led, 5-0, when Newbury Park’s Jeff Hook hit a two-run single in the fourth. Lamb and Tim Lane each had three hits for the Panthers (5-7, 1-1). Tighe Harrell (2-3) pitched a complete game, striking out eight.

Ty Varing doubled and scored on an error to put Westlake (5-7, 1-2) ahead, 7-6, in the top of the ninth.

Thousand Oaks 16, Agoura 3--Brian Sturges (two for four), Adam West (two for two) and David Skeels (two for two) each had two hits to lead host Thousand Oaks (9-4, 2-1) in a Marmonte League blowout. Right-hander Mike Lee (2-0) allowed two earned runs in six innings, striking out nine.

Loyola 9, Notre Dame 6--Chris Leveque (3-1) took the nonleague loss for Notre Dame (10-2), which yielded seven stolen bases. Notre Dame’s Lou Tapia had two RBIs.

Burbank 4, Alhambra 1--Andy Salazar hit a two-run single in the fifth inning for Burbank (8-3, 4-1) in the Foothill League game at Alhambra. William Rivera (3-0) earned the victory.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Chatsworth d. El Camino Real, 15-1, 15-5, 15-8--Gene Urcan had 11 kills for the Chancellors in a West Valley League match. Dan Choi recorded 36 assists for Chatsworth (3-2 in league play).

Granada Hills d. Taft, 12-15, 15-8, 15-10, 15-12--Danny Asaoka had 28 kills to lead host Granada Hills (8-0, 4-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference match. Casey Sheahan had 20 kills and Aubry Miller added 19 for Taft (6-4, 3-1).

Birmingham d. Van Nuys, 10-15, 15-7, 15-5, 15-9--Alex Diaz (23 kills), Stan Yu (19) and Hye Kwon (17) gave Birmingham (8-1, 5-1) a balanced attack in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match. Brad Schultz had 17 kills for Van Nuys (6-2, 5-1).

Cleveland d. Reseda, 15-7, 15-13, 15-11--Mohammad Latifi had 12 kills and Chris Austin added 10 for Cleveland (5-3, 3-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Reseda.

Grant d. Sylmar, 15-11, 15-5, 15-6--Jay Brieg had four kills and four blocks in a losing effort for Sylmar (2-6, 1-5) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Grant.

Glendale Academy d. West L.A. Baptist, 15-1, 15-5, 14-16, 15-5--Manny Pastor recorded 13 kills for visiting Glendale Academy (7-2, 2-0) in a Heritage League match.

BOYS’ TRACK

Taft 81, El Camino Real 48--Cornell Hill won three individual events and anchored the Toreadors’ winning 440-yard relay team (44.4 seconds) to lead Taft in a West Valley League meet at home.

Hill won the 100 meters (11.1), high jump (6 feet 4 inches) and long jump (21-6 3/4).

Kennedy 75, San Fernando 51--The visiting Golden Cougars (7-0, 6-0) clinched at least a tie for the North Valley League title.

San Fernando’s Leonice Brown timed 10.6 in the 100 and 21.6 in the 200. Both marks are the fastest in the area this year.

Jon Cohen won the 880 (2:03.1) and mile (4:52.8) for Kennedy.

Van Nuys 64, Canoga Park 62--Avo Artinyan, Van Nuys’ only multiple-event winner, took the mile (4:56.0) and two-mile (10:46.2) in a Mid-Valley League meet at home.

Canoga Park’s Alvin Edington won three events, taking the 100 in 11.1, the 120 high hurdles (16.2) and the 330 intermediates (41.8).

GIRLS’ TRACK

North Hollywood 100, Grant 18--North Hollywood’s Oshonda Posey won four events, including a school-record performance in the 330-yard low hurdles (48.3), to lead the host Huskies (6-0) in an East Valley League meet.

SOFTBALL

Taft 13, Chatsworth 2--April Tobin hit two home runs, Julie Kawamoto hit a grand slam and Stephanie Fontaine had five hits to lead host Chatsworth in a Northwest Valley Conference game.

Granada Hills 5, San Fernando 0--Granada Hills’ Brandy Brennan, a sophomore right-hander, threw her first no-hitter in the Northwest Valley Conference game at Granada Hills.

Cleveland 10, Kennedy 0--Jill Preston, a junior in her second game after breaking her nose, pitched a no-hitter for Cleveland (4-2, 1-2) in a Northwest Valley Conference game.

Burroughs 3, Arroyo 1--Erin Johnson (2-0) struck out seven for host Burroughs (5-5) in a nonleague game.
