Crappie Reportedly Biting Over Large Area
Crappies, historically a feast-or-famine species, are biting all over Southern California, as far east as the Colorado River.
Crappies generally are good for two or three years and then disappear for the next two or three. Most early reports are non-specific, because crappie anglers are generally more secretive than bass fishermen, but the fish seem to be running from one to three pounds.
Irvine Lake manager Bennett Davison said, “Guys are catching them but aren’t checking them in because they don’t want anybody to know they’re biting yet.”
But the current activity indicates they’re into their spring spawn.
