Odell Leaving Millikan

Bill Odell, 48, the boys basketball coach at Millikan High School for 20 years, has been named coach at Azusa Pacific University.

“The challenge of coaching at the collegiate level has always been a dream of mine,” said Odell, who added that Pacific Azusa’s Christian emphasis also made the position attractive.

Odell’s high school coaching record was 402-199, and he led Millikan to a CIF Southern Section title in 1989.

Heck of a Halibut

Mike Wilcox of Norwalk won the Santa Monica Halibut Derby last weekend when he caught a 43 1/2-inch, 33-pound squid-baited halibut.

He was fishing off the Sea Spray, a Redondo Sports Fishing boat, and caught the big one between the Hermosa Beach pier and the Manhattan Beach pier.
