South El Monte : July 4th to Honor Veterans

Share

This year’s Fourth of July fireworks celebration in South El Monte will honor Desert Storm troops and all war veterans.

The City Council, which last week voted unanimously for the program, accepted a bid of $8,500 by Pyro-Spectaculars of Rialto for aerial and ground fireworks displays. Additional costs of $3,000 to $5,000 will cover security by sheriff’s deputies.

The displays, which have been held in New Temple Park for many years, are popular with most residents, officials said. But several people who live near the park complained of heavy foot traffic and the automobile and motorcycle “cruisers” who congregate in the area because of the event.

Also, David Montoya, who has lived in South El Monte for 21 years, said he has felt it necessary in recent years to stay home to hose down debris from the fireworks that land on his roof and yard. Council members said they would work with Pyro-Spectaculars to make sure that any sparks stay in the park.
